Sports Friends & SIM, our ministry organizations
As we step out on this adventure, we are joining two great mission organizations. Our specific ministry at Camp Langano is through Sports Friends. SIM is the parent mission organization to Sports Friends. Below is some more general information about each organization.
Sports Friends
"Sports Friends' passion is to develop sports ministry leaders around the world who have a kingdom perspective - able to use sports as a bridge for reaching the youth in their communities with the love and Word of God. We train coaches to be positive life influencers, mentors to youth who are often living without purpose or hope. Our efforts are centered in the local church, with the aim of building capacity for sustainable, long-term ministry. We aim to see a movement of churches using sports ministry to transform the lives of youth, their families and their communities." - Sports Friends website
Sports Friends was started in Ethiopia by three families, one Ethiopian and two American, who all shared a vision to use sports to break down barriers and spread the Gospel. After nearly a decade of ministry, Sports Friends has spread to several other countries in Africa and is just starting up in Asia. In Ethiopia, the Sports Friends director, staff, and coaches are primarily Ethiopians. This is exciting to see as the Ethiopians have been trained and have now taken ownership of this ministry.
This is a great organization with a true desire to see the word of God spread to all the nations. Please feel free to find out more about Sports Friends from their website: www.sports-friends.org or just ask us. We would be glad to talk with you about the work that is being done through Sports Friends.

SIM "By Prayer"
SIM has been involved in missions work for almost 120 years. SIM started with the sending 3 young missionaries from North America to the interior of Africa. Over the years, SIM has grown and currently works in more than 50 countries. Over 1,600 missionaries serve with SIM and many of those missionaries are not from North America. SIM missionaries are involved in a wide variety of work from church planting, theological training, and street evangelism to medical, sports, and animal husbandry ministries. The ultimate goal of every SIM ministry is to spread the word of God, disciple Christians, and to plant and strengthen local churches so that they too can fulfill their role in the great commission. It is amazing to see this in action. For example, we are going to work in Ethiopia to help spread the Gospel and strengthen local churches while other churches that have been planted by SIM over the years have sent and are currently supporting more than a dozen Ethiopians serving as missionaries in other countries.
In a short summary, SIM is a global, multi-cultural, forward thinking mission that uses the gifts and passions of followers of Christ to respond to human needs, proclaim the gospel, and equip the church.
There is so much more information available on the SIM website:sim.org. We would also be glad to talk with you about the work that is being done through SIM.
